2x World Baseball Classic champion (2006 and 2009), and Japan Series champion (2021). Even though he didn’t win a World Series championship in MLB Aoki still got some pretty great career achievements right there.

Nori getting to say goodbye at Jingu is what it’s all about.

I’m so glad he finally got a ring in 2021 after years of playing for a mid Swallows team and then bouncing around MLB like a pinball.

He came from a super small high school in his hometown of Hyuga, and was just the second and final NPB alumni from that school (the other being Junya Oda, who barely cracked the Yomiuri Giants roster in 1995). No NPB team scouted him, but he did catch the attention of Waseda University, but was still only a 4th round pick after starring for them for 4 years.

Then he became the only player in NPB history to get 200 hits in a season twice.

The only guy taken ahead of him that had a career anywhere near him is Yoshio Itoi, who put up 53 WAR in his career with the Fighters, Buffaloes, and Tigers.

  3. I remember him on that 2014 Royals team. Good guy

I mainly remember him for a play while he was on the Giants. He blows through a stop sign that the third base coach seemingly had up forever, and one of the top comments on that highlight was, « The seaweed stallion stops for no one. »

Still gets a chuckle out me to this day.
