Bwar ignores framing and every Molina is a god at that. Molina has 55 fwar to Posada’s 40.

Well I don’t think Molina should be a first-ballot HOF either
VincentVanShmo
Thank god I don’t have to bring up Mauer anymore. Yadi will be first ballot now.

I will also add that Posada dealt with a heavy ballot. There were 10 guys on his opening ballot that would end up being elected, 11 if Wagner makes it, plus Bonds, Clemens, Schilling, and Manny.
Yadi will have much less competition.
JTCMuehlenkamp
51 more stolen bases for Yadi, obviously
AJ_CC
Defense and framing, which bWAR is honnestly pretty poor at for measuring catchers. Loved Posada, if bases were loaded in game 7 I rather have him at the plate than Molina, but I’d rather have Molina behind the plate for that game.

Hitting isn’t everything, especially in Molina’s case
renegade_yankee
Yadi was as good as it gets defensively where Jorge was very flawed behind the plate. A lot of writers factor in defense when it comes to catchers.
IanMaIcolm
Well you’re using the inferior WAR for one. For two, the media loves Molina. Them and the fans created this mythos around Molina which made him a for sure hall of famer. I acknowledge he has 55 career WAR so he should be in the mix
Novel_End1080
Don’t forget career CS%
Molina 40% (led the majors 4 times).
Posada 28%
Distinct_Frame_3711
BWAR doesn’t account as well for defense near as well as Fangraphs. Per fWAR Yadi has 15 more WAR then Posada

Better to compare war with fwar between catchers.
Yanks1813
Posada was a terrible defender and his offense isn’t talked about enough because he was on a bunch of stacked Yankee lineups.
It’s hard to stand out as one of the best hitting catchers when you’re hitting in a lineup with guys like A-Rod, Jeter, Matsui, Damon, Abreu, Giambi, Teixiera, Cano, Soriano etc over the course of your career

The gold gloves are *right there* on the screen you posted.
Drain_Surgeon69
I get that Gold Gloves aren’t always the best indicator someone is a good defensive player, but Molina’s numbers against the run and his ability to control the game from behind the plate is something that hasn’t been replicated.
I think you can argue that he isn’t just a first ballot HOFer, but that he’s on the Rushmore of catchers.
Ven18
Baseball reference war calculations do not do a great job of showing catcher defensive. I am pretty sure fangraphs has Yadi with a war in the low mid 50s. Now I fully think Posada deserves to be in the HOF cause they just hate catchers but Yadi as a complete player is a better catcher than Jorge.
BIG_FICK_ENERGY
Because he was legitimately an ace behind the plate. For years, Cardinals pitchers would have ERAs a full run lower for him than they did the Cardinals’ other catchers. And this was across multiple seasons with different backups.
He should 100% unequivocally be in the HoF.

Please don’t use bWAR for catchers, it’s just objectively inferior. I’m a but of a yadi hater, and even I think he’s clearly got a much better case than posada
I think Molina’s reputation of being one of the best at catcher in his generation coupled with a ton of hardware will tip him in eventually.
Posada was one of the most prolific offensive catchers of all time, but I’d argue he benefited far more from being part of that dynasty than he contributed to its success. And his defense was weak as well.

Georgie was like a 5th string star at best in any given year with the Yankees. Doesn’t have the narrative.
Yadi was THE franchise player for the Cardinals (would have been Pujols, but ya know). And also he is unquestionably the best defensive catcher of his era.

What is their DRS?
Molina in 2224 games: 96 PB, 565 SB allowed, 40% CS rate.
