Extra 17.5 to add to the 800,000,000 Soto will get

With the option not hitting the books the Mets will enter this offseason with Lindor, McNiel, Marte, and Diaz still locked up, Vientos, Alvarez, and all of our prospects on rookie minimums and more than $90M to spend before hitting the first tax threshold.
This is going to be a fun winter

If my math is correct, the Mets will have 22 players off the books this this off-season with a combined salary just shy of $180M. Just 9 of those 22 players are still currently on the Mets, and they combine to make just shy of $80M.
Lotta dead weight coming off the books!

Does it make me a weird knob to say « will not » feels premature?
Like, I agree, he won’t hit the vesting amount. But « likely will not » or « assuredly will not » feels more accurate until the season is over.
