Before this, he was only hitting a putrid .333 smh
Marte was an integral part of the 2022 Mets and it was SO obvious how much worse the team performed when he got injured in September. Was the definition of a “glue” guy in that lineup. Then he has a super disappointing 2023 season with all the injuries.
Coming into this year, myself and most Mets fans saw him as a total sunk cost. Some even contemplated trading him to get rid of his salary. Then he had some other minor injuries throughout the season as well. But the Mets have been SO careful with giving him plenty of days off and limiting his time in the outfield and it seems to have made a huge difference, because he has been AWESOME the last month!
If he’s ever struggling to find a roster spot later in his career he should try to latch onto a team as a pinch hitter that is exclusively used in bases loaded situations
