Haven’t seen this talked about anywhere else yet but…
Fan in the front row just pushed the net towards the field and towards Alonso, hoping he/the ball would hit it.
Feels like it should be interference? pic.twitter.com/6evu6m8gaq

Diaz and then Alonso made this drop moot.
But in this replay — looks like it was clear fan interference.
Initially it looked like interference to me and I was like 80% sure at the moment it would’ve been called but a close up of the replay at a different angle did show him botch it. Alonso sure as hell would’ve made a big stink about it too.
Could the fan reaching in potentially have affected him mentally with catching the ball? Possibly. But I can’t remember a time when not making contact with the ball or player would reverse a play as interference.
That fan definitely knew what he was doing and is a dumbass.
It doesn’t look like the fan or the netting made contact with Alonso. Good non-call.
….there was no interference.
Was not interference. However, it was pretty clear it was attempted interference from the fan. I am glad it didn’t affect the game, but that fan should remember they could just have easily caused an out instead of the ball just dropping.
Everyone is assuming it didn’t affect the play because his hand didn’t touch Pete or the ball, but the shot doesn’t show what was going on above – if the ball was skimming the netting him pushing the netting could have easily changed the ball’s trjaectory and that was why Pete missed it. Even if that didn’t happen, his arm sticking 2 feet onto the field within inches of Pete should still be considered a hinderence. POS fan should be 86’ed.
Hard to say, I’m leaning towards it not being interference because Alonso didn’t even seem to notice the guy and I feel like he would have started barking at the fan and calling for interference if he felt like the play was altered by it
But this is one of those cases where discretion needs to come into play with regard to stadium security – you can’t outright ban fans from touching the screen because they need to protect themselves, but it’s clear this fan was not acting in that interest and should probably be ejected
EDIT: from [another angle](https://x.com/buffsportspage/status/1842187752239948052) it looks like he was just holding himself up trying to keep an eye on the baseball
Stay classy Milwaukee
The fan is so far over that, had the netting not been there, he’d probably have fallen onto the field. He should have been ejected (but received karmic retribution instead).
Steve Bartman moved to Milwaukee looks like
Pete made the whole fucking thing MOOT
