Hi everyone – Not much of a change to the MLB Defensive Runs Saved leaderboard this week. The big gainer this week was the Dodgers, but they’re pretty locked in to the #4 spot on this list.

I want to reiterate about the Red Sox being 6. DRS and OAA are in agreement that the Red Sox outfield is excellent (particularly Duran), their infield does not rate well, and their catching rates poorly. We differ on the degrees to which this is true (particularly the infield). Being #6 on this list doesn’t necessarily mean you’re the 6th-best defensive team … just means when you sum all the positions, you come out #6. Take from that what you wish.

I would also note – I think the top 5 teams on this list are MLB’s standout defensive teams and that if you go from to 7 to 13, there isn’t that much difference between them.

Also, take a team like the Mets – they’re 17 … but they were near the bottom in MLB for a good chunk of the season. They’re a much better defensive team right now than they were earlier in the year, so 17 doesn’t tell the whole story.

    Questions welcome, happy to engage.

Blue Jays really took this defense and paired it with pitching that gives up more homers than the Rockies and White Sox

CORRECTION: The Cardinals number should be 32 – that’s why they’re tied for 8th
