  1. Jesus Christ the Jays are climbing fast. +9 the last two times to overtake the Guardians.

surely the blue jays’ offense is capitalizing the most on those saved runs…right?

    Hi everyone

To pre-empt any commentary on « how can the Red Sox be 6th? » and « MLB’s numbers are way different on the Red Sox » let me make a couple points

1- Both MLB’s numbers (OAA/Runs Prevented) and our numbers love the Red Sox outfield defense. Last time I checked (yesterday) they both had the Red Sox outfield as 3rd-best. Now, OAA/RP scales lower than DRS, so the DRS number for the outfield is in the 30s, the OAA number is in the teens.

2 OAA/DRP thinks the Red Sox infield has performed terribly, last in MLB. DRS has them 22nd. They agree on the Red Sox infield being bad. The degree to which they are bad is a little different though not a lot. We also agree on the catcher D being poor (and pitcher D is basically a non-factor. MLB doesn’t do pitcher OAA. DRS has them at +2)

That the Red Sox rank 6th in team DRS is partly because they’re very good in the outfield and partly because of the means by which we’re calculating team DRS (summing positions). More detail is needed.

If you’re going to break down the Red Sox d, or any team’s D for that matter, the DRS/OAA number is a starting point. You need to look at units (infield/outfield etc) and specific positions to get a better feel.

    **Most DRS as Center Fielder**
    Jarren Duran (17)
    Daulton Varsho (15)
    Michael A. Taylor (13)
    Jacob Young (13)

    **Most DRS as Left Fielder**
    Daulton Varsho (12)
    Riley Greene (12)
    Ian Happ (9)
    Brandon Marsh (9)

Varsho casually on the DRS leaderboards for multiple positions.

I love seeing which teams are killing it on defense! It’s like watching a ballet of catches and throws.

If you’re comparing this week to last week then the Royals went -8 for an entire week

What website is this through? From fangraphs I’m seeing the top 4 as TOR/MIL/LAD/AZ
