Aduwa was born in Kumamoto to a Japanese mother and a Nigerian father. His mother, Junko Sakumoto, was a pro volleyball player, which probably explains why he’s 6’5″.

Aduwa first got noticed on the national stage when he helped Matsuyama Seiryo High School reach the Summer Koshien tournament for the first time in their history in 2016, commanding a staff that also featured former Chiba Marines reliever Hideto Doi. They met Koshien mainstays Hokkai High School in the first round, but lost.

Still, it was enough for Aduwa to be taken in the 5th round of that year’s draft. Since then it’s been feast or famine for Aduwa, including missing the entire 2021 season after getting elbow surgery, but he’s still only 25 and likely profiles as a mid-table starter for the future.

Are CSGOs more common in Japan(NPB)? I only ask because I know that they get more time between starts and you routinely see pitchers in that league throw far more pitches.

133 pitches! Is that as unusual in Japan as it is in the US?
