Am I correct in thinking that if the infield fly rule had been invoked, it would not have mattered at all? And that this is exactly the sort of scenario it was made for?
It does seem like interference, but wouldn’t interference not matter for the infield fly rule? Doesn’t matter if the infielder ultimately catches it or not.

I’m listening to the radio and they couldn’t believe what they were looking at, and seeing this it’s every bit as baffling as they said. It’s like O’Neill’s brain just shorted out and he didn’t even see where he was going, just tried to plow right through whatever was in front of him.
Bad play by O’Neill but logically makes no sense whatsoever that u can interfere with a catch that is already given out regardless of it being caught due to the infield fly rule
In that case what’s the downside to a fielder trying to “foul bait” a call anytime this situation happens since it’s gonna be called out on the catch no matter what
