Padres with the best bullpen in baseball all of a sudden. And a top 10 offense.

The Padres are going to be a black horse team out of the NL. That’s what in.

edit: I meant dark horse. *That’s* what’s in.

Insane, regardless of those prospects having relative down years

  4. Arrowoods

I honestly thought Scott had years of control and was ok with this. For a rental???? That’s so much.

A lot of high pedigree prospects that have been pretty bad this year. Padres really like to rush their dudes though so I wouldn’t be *too* concerned with most of those numbers. I don’t think any of the main three are ready for the MLB yet though despite the debuts.

Fuck it trade Chad Green immediately

  7. sd_pinstripes

yeah, that’s a lot, but we can definitely contend for the WS this year, maybe just need a starter (or at least Yu and Joe to come back)

going to take an army to beat the phillies

I like the word bonanza and think it fits well here

Both teams should be happy. Marlins got a tremendous haul for a rental reliever. Padres have a deep, filthy pen which can make all the difference in October (if they get there).

If Scott was a starter that is a solid deal.

He is a reliever so this seems crazy.

  11. Gotta hand it to the Padres. They always do what they can to keep the fans interested.

But holy shit they’ve gutted the farm for 3 relievers, the best one of which is a rental.

Can someone explain to me why Erceg with 4.5 years of control goes for so much less than Scott as a rental? I get Scott is better and a lefty but I’ll take almost 5 years of control over a couple of months.

Is it me or has this been the most active trade deadline in recent years?!

  14. frizbeeguy1980

Scott is clearly better than Erceg, but that much for a rental compared to what we gave up for 5+ years of control…I am liking the Erceg deal more and more.

preller must have spent all that saved soto money on coke

  16. Bower1738

At least some teams out here actually giving it their all

  17. cuffs_and_cuddles

Reliever market is insane right now lol. We were never getting Tanner Scott if this was the price.

  18. Redbubble89

It’s always fucking Preller every damn deadline.

can you imagine the haul Emmanuel Clase would bring? LMAO

I seriously believe that preller and dipoto should just swap teams every two years. Have Jerry build up the farm and have preller take them to actually be WS contenders.

Jerry has no spine for a deal like this. Built the best starting rotation in baseball with one of the better bullpens (which would be even better in the playoffs when we drop our fifth starter) and while getting Randy was a solid pickup, we still have 5 top end prospects that could easily net us yandy or some other high level starter.

A top of the lineup with jp, Julio, Randy, yandy, cal, polanco, turner and Rojas is a legit lineup. Couple that with a truly elite pitching rotation and an above average bullpen and we instantly become division favorites and legitimate World Series contenders, but not for just this season. Every single player I mentioned, other than turner, would be under contract for next year.

Jerry has an opportunity to really push this mariners team over the edge, but I just don’t think he’ll do it. Preller would have this exact mariners team competing for the WS for the next 2 years at least, no doubt in my mind.

Nobody told Preller that Seidler died and he doesn’t have to make trades like this anymore.
