    1. I watched it. Why would I care if someone else watched it?

    2. They’re not going to stop doing the HRD because of ratings

    3. If we’re going to critique why….the general audience will tune in for the 3 names they know and that’s it.

The statcast feed on espn2 was a much better viewing experience. Also people are cutting the cord or don’t want to sign up for espn+ or another streaming service.

You gotta have the star power. Find a format that’s entertaining and will incentivize the stars to participate.

  4. beefytrout

Ironically it was probably the most discussed one in a long time, but not for the event itself.

I don’t have regular TV service, just Mlb.tv subscription so was unable to watch. Sorry MLB 🙁

  6. _TriplePlayed

    I don’t have cable. So didn’t watch.

Imagine if the derby was Judge, Ohtani, Trout, Harper, Acuna, Altuve, Seager, Machado, people would tune in

  8. introspectivejoker

I usually only watch it if one of the members of my team is in it. And even then it’s no guarantee

I tuned in to watch Jose Ramirez, but we needed some star power. Judge, Ohtani, Harper, Trout, etc. I understand dudes wanting to skip, but it does diminish the show.

Switch it back to the 10 outs and I’ll watch again

  11. Free-Rub-1583

Too many people turned it off after the national anthem

    Pitching machines.

Right now it’s a contest to see who throws the best BP.

I don’t think the format was that bad. It was a lot of smaller market participants and lacked really a headliner. There is nothing wrong with Teoscar, Witt, or Gunnar but none of these guys are Prince Fielder, Ortiz, or Cespedes from 10-15 years ago.

Might help if it was watchable on mlb.tv. at least I could use an antenna and watch the all star game on fox

  15. Let me watch it with my MLB.tv subscription and I would’ve tuned in

For how long it went on, it still went by fast to me. I honestly think it was less about how long it was than it was who participated. The more popular the players, the more people who are more casual about the sport will want to watch.

1, there were ads all over the place. 2, let them have metal bats and hit bombs. Eason would kill to have a hypeflyer out there. 3- it’s too long. Rather have a 30 min HR Derby and 30 min other skills comp.

Because it’s boring and has been for a long time. Too many rounds, and frankly too many HRs hit.

It’s not special or exciting when we’re seeing 150+ HRs. It’s just repetitive and dull and the act of hitting a homer becomes completely diluted.

Just get 8-10 players. One round. Most HRs wins. Done.

For me it was the weak field, not wanting to listen to ESPN’s commentary/deal with commercials and it not even being legally available without cable.

I’ll reiterate what I said in the thread complaining about it not being on ESPN+: MLB is one of the hardest products in sports to watch legally and there’s just other stuff I could do with my time.

I just don’t care. It’s kinda boring to watch, and it’s too long.
