Hi everyone – This is Mark Simon from Sports Info Solutions. Thought you’d appreciate a little analysis to go with the Defensive Runs Saved rankings I posted.
1. Blue Jays 52 – They’re at the top on the strength of their outfield (Daulton Varsho leads in LF, has most Runs Saved overall when combining CF and LF)
2. Guardians 47- Numbers very solid with Rocchio at SS, Kwan in LF, Gimenez at 2B. Bo Naylor’s pitch framing has given them a nice boost too.
3. Royals 41 – Their success up the middle is impressive and that includes their pitchers and catchers, whose 21 combined runs saved is the most for any pitcher-catcher combo
4. Yankees 34 – They lead the majors in Runs Saved from their catchers, which is a testament to their pitch framing. They’re also good at 3rd base.
5. Brewers 32 – The young guys shall lead them. Brice Turang and Jackson Chourio lead MLB at second base and right field, respectively
5. Rangers 32 – Amazing that in Josh Jung’s absence, they lead the majors in Runs Saved from their 3rd basemen. They also have great numbers in left field (group effort) and 2nd base (Marcus Semien)
7. Dodgers 30 – They’ve been good up the middle on the infield and they’ve offset their issues in left field and center field with good defensive numbers in right field
7. Braves 30 – Austin Riley is just shy of the MLB lead for Defensive Runs Saved by a third baseman. He’s turned into a very good defensive player.
9. Orioles – Gunnar Henderson is among the shortstop leaders. The Orioles only weakness is second base. They’re average or better elsewhere.
10. Mariners – Cal Raleigh leads all catchers in Runs Saved. Josh Rojas has done a nice job at third base.
10. Red Sox – Jarren Duran is a co-leader in center field. The Red Sox outfield has combined for 29 Runs Saved. The rest of the team: -10.
