Unfortunately « what it is » is a dump.

I hear Oakland has nice turf since the Raiders moved out. It’s just the shit around it that makes it bad.

I visited the Coliseum two weeks ago and was lucky enough to catch Pablo López’s 14 strikeout game.

What really stood out to me is how little room there is too move around. The announced attendance was 18,491, which is a lot for the A’s at this stage (they were celebrating the 1974 title team with a pre-game ceremony and jersey giveaway) but still only 1/3 capacity, and I couldn’t move around the stadium at all without feeling like I was running up against people. The concourses felt than the pre-renovation Wrigley concourse (which was freaking *tiny*) and I was constantly dodging oncoming traffic or completely trapped behind slow walkers.

On top of that, it was **HOT**. We had first row second deck seats and we ended up going up and sitting in the top row of our section to get out of the sun. There is zero shade in that place, even relative to other baseball stadiums. It felt like we were ants sitting under a magnifying glass.

Lastly, you’re just *so far* from the game. The stadium was clearly built with football as a priority and lacks any sort of intimacy or closeness to the field at any point.

I’m glad I caught a game there, because now I have a complete understanding of why it’s been a struggle to get people to go there. I may be furious that the A’s are leaving Oakland, but good riddance that toilet.
