    **Verdugo’s last 200 games:**
    .231/.286/.364 (.650 OPS/79 wRC+) with 0.4 fWAR

He struggled in the second half last year with the Red Sox, and outside of a nice April, he’s been below-average every month for the Yankees.

I’m really curious why the Yankees have shown such loyalty to Verdugo. He’s only a fill-in player, leaving in free agency in two months. And it’s not like our organization sunk a lot into coaching and developing him for years. He’s just some guy.

They could play more Trent Grisham and don’t.
They could’ve added a rental outfielder at the deadline and didn’t.
They could call up Dominguez and haven’t.

    Very curious.

Verdugo rewards this vote of confidence by showing negative hustle

I know a lot of non-Yankees fans look at the Yankees record and the fact that they are constant playoff contenders and think the fanbase is a bunch of entitled crybabies for complaining about Boone and Cashman all of the time but…

It’s truly impossible to understand the amount of apathy this organization has towards being true championship contenders without following the team everyday. The way the Dominguez situation has unfolded is truly just the tip of the iceberg and is only the latest symptom of organizational complacency.

But I guess complacency is what you get when you give a GM a lifetime appointment.
